A strange thing happened this week with regards to that new K9 series, that may / or may not be a Doctor Who spinoff filmed in Australia. There’s a fair bit of confusion surrounding this show, because no-one really seems to know whether K9 is actually a Doctor Who spinoff or whether it will just be about a robotic dog that isn’t ‘the’ actual K9 from the Doctor Who universe.
Adding to the strange goings on, the production site for the show went live on Thursday allowing access to on set images and other information. Sci-fi magazine SFX reported on the site which was swiftly password protected hours later for only “the production team working on K9″.
So was it a regular slip up, a purposeful slip up to get some buzz going or something else that had this occur? Guess we’ll all have to wait for the fansite to go live before any of these questions will be answered. One thing’s for sure though, this must be a Doctor Who spinoff given K-9 co-creator Bob Baker is involved. The concept thus far seems to be K-9 will be the hero of each episode, it will be based on a spaceship called the Platte and feature a couple of ‘human’ (ish) characters. Given it’s being slated as a comedy, this is sounding a little more Red Dwarf than Doctor Who, but time will tell.
