UK critics not fans of Vampire Diaries

Seems like not everyone likes a little teenage bloodsucking in their days.. err.. nights. The Vampire Diaries has just started showing on ITV2 and has a fairly good viewership (around a million viewers), but the critics were less than impressed, with one suggesting Vampire Diaries is nothing when compared to the more mature show True Blood.
This seems a bit of an unfair comparison given the two could be slotted into different genres despite the horror link. True Blood is an adult show, with very adult themes, whereas The Vampire Diaries would seem to be squarely aimed at the teen market who lap up the Twilight franchise. Provided the viewers tune in, what the critics think won’t matter.
