I usually sway far away from overly political entertainment reporting because quite frankly people tend to get very angry on whichever side they fall, but this one involves a popular UK TV presenter so we’ll go with it. Lowri Turner always seemed a sweet little woman and host of a multitude of TV shows including The Wright Stuff, DIY SOS and Housecall. Seems that sweet persona is hiding something rather nasty.
With all the hoo harr over the recent Stephen Gately journalistic fiasco, Turner’s stint as a columnist for Wales Online has hit a few blogs this week because of her – seemingly – homophobic views. The article titled “However much I love my gay friends, I don’t want them running the country” seems to work off the basis that if you don’t procreate you essentially can’t function (straight folk without kids too we guess). Snarky comments like “I have gay friends whose biggest headache is whether to have a black sofa or a cream one. If they have a child it is a dog” are rife in her article which seems to be based on nothing but ridiculous notions of sexuality. Lowri, go read some books, get educated and stop saying you’re not homophobic because you have gay friends. I wonder how many gay friends she has now given the age of the article.
