The Secret Life of the American Teenager gets second season

ABC has renewed hit TV show ‘The Secret Life of the American Teenager’ for a second season. Another 24 episodes of the show will be shown after it’s first season has been such a huge success.

The show aired last year to the highest ever rating for a premiere, beating out the CW’s Gossip Girl on more than one occasion. ABC Family dramas seem to be getting more popular and they’ve certainly hit a niche in the market. The show averages around 2.1 million viewers in the 12-34 year old female age group and it’s given ABC more impetus to go ahead with other female centred shows.

The show stars Brat Pack star Molly Ringwald as the lead character’s mother which is a nice addition to the cast. It’s currently in the second half of it’s first season run, due to end on March 23. It’ll be nice to see which direction they take the show for it’s seconds season.
