Who else watched “The Playboy Club” and if so, what did you think? I have to say I went into this show assuming the worst, I thought it was going to be sexist tripe, but I was in part wrong. Sure there’s sexism, it’s the 1960′s and the show is set in the Playboy mansion and subsequent club… duh, but there’s more here. “The Playboy Club” is well written, stylish and fairly intriguing. This isn’t “Mad Men”, but then what is, this is an interesting take on the subject matter with a good cast and stories that – while being slightly cliche – are clearly setting up future episodes (plenty of B-plots lurking).
“The Playboy Club” has been pretty much panned by the critics, but a recurring theme kept coming up… it wasn’t naughty enough for the timeslot. Does a series after 10pm need to have rampant sex to be good? No, not in my opinion and those who tuned in solely for that purpose, shame on you. “The Playboy Club” does glisten with sugar-coated US nostalgia, probably in much the same way “Pan Am” will when it airs, as new shows go though, this one was pretty good in my opinion.
