Lifetime has announced the air date for its “Steel Magnolias” remake, that date should you be interested is Sunday, October 7. The original 1989 movie starred Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine and Daryl Hannah, this new version stars Queen Latifah, Alfre Woodard, Jill Scott, Phylicia Rashad, Adepero Oduye and Condola Rashad.
You may be asking, why this remake, to which I say no idea, seems a big waste of time. Apparently some people thought an all ‘African American’ cast would help that sector of the audience connect with the story. Really? Seems odd, as a viewing audience are we really so racist we can’t connect with actors unless they’re the color of the audience? Absolute rubbish, what do you think?
