SyFy is readying its single camera comedy Saved by Zeroes, a show created by its star Michael Rosenbaum. The 30 minute show will focus on Rosenbaum’s character, the former star of a cult sci-fi series, now making his living by doing sci-fi conventions. If it sounds like Galaxy Quest, well, Rosenbaum himself even knows that’s the case, stating it’s like Galaxy Quest meets Eastbound and Down.
The star is best known for his role as the villainous Lex Luthor in Smallville, so comedy will be an interesting move. Rosenbaum had this to say about his news series: “Through drugs and drinking, [the characters played by Rosenbaum and Silverman] didn’t save money and, years later, the only thing they have left are the conventions, all they’ve got are their loyal, devoted fans…Our show is not about being in the business, it’s about being out of the business; it’s the ‘Non-tourage.’ We’re the losers you want to see back on top.”
