From her underground lair, Oprah Winfrey has announced a deal with Discovery Communications to start her own network, aptly called OWN—the Oprah Winfrey Network. Yes I was kidding about the underground lair, but clearly a little world domination is on the cards for America’s favorite talk show host.. ahem.. second favorite, that’s right Oprah fell to second place behind Ellen DeGeneres this year. Heck, maybe Ellen will get her own network sometime in the future, or work towards putting someone she feels represents her in government. Anyways here’s what Oprah had to say about the deal…
“I said from the beginning that this was an opportunity for me to step out of the box and make the kind of shows that make my heart sing,” she said, emphasizing that she planned to keep the focus on “mindful, not mindless, television.”
Sounds good to us, so expect no reality TV, no self help, enlightenment, make yourself slimmer / be better type programs on the OWN… oh wait… that would kind of mean Oprah couldn’t put her own show on there. Guess there’s room for a little mindless after all.
