Nicole Richie for ABC sitcom WTF?

In some of the more odd casting news to hit the interwebs Nicole Rishie has been given the lead in a sitcom by ABC. On Richie’s website she’s written “I am so excited to announce that I am officially working on a television project! I am creating a half hour scripted comedy for ABC in which I will be starring in, as well as producing.
The story revolves around a young, modern and professional woman who must balance her business and family relationships. She must deal with, and navigate the many ideas of what a woman’s role is: modern vs. traditional.”

Wow it sounds so fresh, so exciting and with Richie at the helm how can it possibly fail! Alright I know sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but seriously, ABC what are you thinking? No offense to Richie, but surely there are other actresses, actual actresses that deserve to head up a new comedy show more than Nicole Richie? It’s just odd, but I guess we’ll see how it goes.
