NBC’s Smash a quick review and thoughts

NBC’s “Smash” is mere weeks away from its official air date of February 6, but I’ve got the skinny right here in the Snarkerati “Smash” review. NBC has invested a lot into this musical drama and it shows. With production values and an overall feel that matches that of a big screen movie, “Smash” brings it.
There were comparisons between “Smash” and “Glee” prior to even a screener being spotted in the wild. Those comparisons may be understandable (they’re both music driven series), however they could not be more disimilar. “Glee” can at times be loose in the character development arena, with frivolity taking centre stage over dramatic character building moments. “Smash” on the otherhand sets up the series with characters you’ll be invested in within moments and a plot that leaves things open to elation and heartbreak.
Here’s hoping NBC don’t ruin this one, because based on the pilot, “Smash” is a truly wonderful piece of television, with that big screen feel.
