I have no idea what Channel Nine Australia are thinking, I can’t begin to even guess what on earth is going on in the minds of those in charge of their “Olympic coverage”. All I can do is give an opinion and share the opinion of friends and family regarding their “professionalism” or lack thereof in their ‘coverage’ of the prestigious Olympic Winter Games.
I stopped tuning in after the Begg-Smith incident, McGuire had blown it with this viewer, but apparently his stupidity didn’t end that night and he’s continued on in astounding form. I’m told him and co-host Mick Molloy had quite the homophobic laced commentary about the mens figure skating. This was discussed on Aussie radio today and the host (Ryan, Monty and Wippa) found Molloy and McGuire funny, their Brokeback Mountain quips oh so funny. They described them as “boys” a few times. Don’t want to point out the obvious BUT they’re men, grown, adult men and Aussie media “professionals”. It’s embarrassing. What is meant to be our Olympics coverage has turned into some weird boys club that has little to do with the actual games and more to do with getting your mates together in Vancouver for a few beers. The whole thing is just so very very strange and ultimately embarrasses me as an Australian.
