In a move that shocks pretty much no one, Channel 7 Australia has axed Kath & Kim US. We mentioned this back when we reviewed the first episode of the US version of Kath & Kim and stated then we’d “be astounded if Channel 7 don’t yank it off the air.” Seems we don’t have to be astounded, since it’s no more thanks to abysmal ratings.
Channel 7 Australia will be replacing the US Kath & Kim with the original Australian version of the show.
Despite thinking the show was dire myself this irritates me for all those people who may have actually been watching it and wanted to see how the series panned out. This is just another case of Australian TV channels taking the absolute mick out of their viewership (as we discussed here), advertising something to the hilt and then whipping it off the air and repeating shows we’ve all already seen anyway. I guess it’s just all about the money.

it didn’t have any yumor! or our australian lango
i didnt mind the american version even thought it was boring
but the american kath no frizzy hair and kimmy no highlights
what was the americans thinking
im not attacking the person who sold the show to the yankies
i know it was either gina rileys or jane turners husband who has been trying to sell the show for years
if it was me selling the rights i would of passed them on to the ab fab ladies would of been more funny or rossanne barr
thanks for trying to makes us australians look like bogans in america on nbc
hopefully
hopefully gina riley or jane turner well pen down kath and kim 5
How about the amount of complaints that they received were overwhelming? How about the fact that we already have way too many sub-standard American ‘comedies (Two and a Half Men, for instance) and Channel 7 realised what dickheads they were by playing a terrible American version of an Aussie classic? And they didn’t advertise it to the hilt, they didn’t even show ONE clip in the run-up ads to the series. They only showed old clips of our version, suggesting their lack of confidence in the US version. You’re whinging for the sake of whinging.
