Is V really about the Obama administration?

V obama Anna passport Flu vaccination

There’s been a lot of controversy surrounding the re-imagined V TV series. Many reviewers / critics reading a whole lot into the show and seeing it as an allegory of the Obama administration. Personally I think there are some similarities between V and real world politics, but aren’t there in many series? It is these real world similarities that draw us in and make us emotionally involved.

The final episode of the year has now aired and yet more interpretations are in, this time suggesting that once more real world issues are being pressed forth through the show. The episode suggests the evil V aliens are messing with flu-vaccines and disseminating whatever drug it is they’re using via that medium. Some critics suggesting this plays on fears of the flu-vaccine.

In this day and age it is like it has become a bad thing to question anything. Actor Brent Spiner (of Star Trek fame) recently came under fire on Twitter for suggesting the flu-vaccine may not be a great idea. He was bombarded with comments that tended to suggest he was somehow “anti-vaccine”. Surely it is a good thing that we question such things and if TV shows get us thinking about real world issues, we should embrace them and not disparage them? I’m enjoying V and find any political overtones a good thing.
