This post could feature what could be considered spoilers, so read on at your own risk. Apart from Nurse Jackie being one of the best written shows on TV at the moment, it’s also got some of the coolest characters. Looks like one of those characters might have been hiding a girlfriend for the last wee while and that character is lovable mad Brit Dr. O’Hara played by Eve Best.
Apparently Julia Ormond will play the love interest of O’Hara in a multi-episode arc. So is Dr. O’Hara in Nurse Jackie a lesbian? In short, if you saw this weeks episode, the answer is quite obviously that she is not a lesbian, but rather bisexual, given she is sexually attracted to men. This is an interesting little story for O’Hara. I know I keep saying it, but if you’ve missed Nurse Jackie, buy the DVD’s because it is some amazing television and season two is throwing up some cool little twists.
I tend to disagree with your Bisexual assessment and think that is a stretch. Dr. McDreamy (yes Dr. O’Hara, I mean you…) had a little-quick chapel sex and clearly wants nothing more to do with Sam, and told him so. Her reaction to Julia’s character was giddiness–the kind that means l-o-v-e. I feel certain and my gaydar tells me Dr. O’Hara plays for my team…
You’re partly right, she was giddy and clearly has deep feelings for her gf, however she did seem to enjoy the penis, which kind of negates her lesbian status. For this reason, I stand by her being bi.
I also think it would be brilliant if O’Hara were a lesbian, but given Ormond is only set to appear in a few episodes and we’ve not heard O’Hara will be getting another female love interest, this kind of reeks of ‘try and keep GLAAD happy’ as opposed to a serious attempt at a regular lesbian character. This assessment would also tie in with the bisexual thing, given this is a tool networks use from time to time to woo a certain demographic. I hope I’m wrong, but I think O’Hara will leave ‘your’ team for the other side in coming episodes… and a sad day that will be, though unsurprising.
I think they should make her gay. Because, you never get a Lesbian character, you get gay men characters but never a gay woman character, yeah okay there is the L word and that whole mess with Katherine from DH (Desperate Housewives) and Callie and what’s her name from Grey’s, but who still watches Grey’s? It’s gotten a tad boring now…Its mostly Meredith whining about her crappy life or something…Lame…After Addison left the show lost it’s feel. Anyway back to Nurse Jackie, I think they will be able to do alot more with the show if they brought in O’Hara as gay. Because lets look at this demographically; She’s hot, she’s British and she’s gay/bi. stereotypical gay women love that (Trust me on that) Straight women love gay couples. And Straight men will want to see action. But now you’re thinking well what about gay men? Well I have one thing to say…HAVE YOU NOT NOTICED THOR!?
In conclusion; I think they will bring in a wider audience if they write O’Hara as gay.
And…She’s hot so…I wanna see her kiss a girl again…But that’s more personal then professional.
