Ok, so what went wrong for David Archuleta? When David Cook picked up the ultimate reality show crown this week as the American Idol winner, a nation gasped in stunned silence. Sure, there were plenty of Cook fans around, that is clearly visible from the sheer number of votes cast in his favor. Over 97.5 million votes were cast overall, with his majority win guaranteeing him a place in history – but did he really deserve it?
We all know that Cook became a frontrunner in the show when he started doing performances that were a little more risqué and individual than some of the other contestants, but isn’t he just another rock singer who may be unmemorable in a few years? Archuleta at least had the dewy eyed wholesome kid thing going for him that is sure to make him a star. He certainly had the most consistent performances over the entirety of the season.
Whatever the reason for Cook winning, there’s no doubt Archuleta will go on to be a household name across the world. Remaining graceful in defeat, the 17 year old will be a force to be reckoned with as he continues to grow in confidence. For now though, the spotlight is on David Cook – let’s hope he delivers what he promises.
