Gabriel Byrne snags UK drama series

The star of HBO’s “In Treatment” has scored a new gig thanks to UK’s Channel 4. Four-part drama series “Coup” (working title) will see Byrne playing politician Tom Dawkins, a man involved in a petrochemical scandal.

This is a good guy story, with the lead character Dawkins being a sort of Erin Brockovich type, risking everything for the greater good. Needless to say this being a British series, it’s bound to be fairly dark and maudlin affair, as opposed to all happy clappy. Based on the novel “A Very British Coup” by Chris Mullin, you can expect to see this later in the year.
