There were few surprises at this years Emmy awards. Most of the shows that were tipped to walk away with the awards did, thankfully most of them deserved it though.
The excellent cast of Damages were awarded for their performances, with wins for Glenn Close and Zeljko Ivanek. The show continues to show that if the storyline is good, the viewing public will lap up women over 40 in TV roles. It’s no longer mandatory that everyone in TV is young and ‘bouncy’ so good on Glenn Close for showing some excellent acting skill and keeping us all engaged with the show so much.
Other outstanding drama awards went to hit show Mad Men. It walked away with the award for Outstanding Writing for Drama Series and the top award for Outstanding Drama Series. It’s also a show that has gripped most who watch is and will no doubt continue for some time to come.
As well as these shows, the other big drama winner of the night was John Adams. It took home awards for Paul Giamatti as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie, Outstanding Miniseries, Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries (Tom Wilkinson) and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries (Laura Linney). Not a bad night all round for a show about politics.
