Brady Bunch butcher dead at 84

Allan Melvin, the guy who is probably most well remembered in TV circles for his role as Sam the butcher on The Brady Bunch has died at the age of 84. Melvin was one of two actors to succumb to cancer in the last week, the other being Suzanne Pleshette covered at Snarkerati also.

As well as his role as Sam the butcher in The Brady Bunch Melvin was also a great character actor, including voice work. Two of his most famed characters were Magilla Gorilla and Bluto in the Popeye cartoon series. Allan Melvin also appeared on The Phil Silvers Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Andy Griffith Show and All in the Family.
