Bionic Woman Ratings Drop

Jaime Sommers is having a problem her bionic self can’t remedy, audience figures. Those dreaded Nielsen Ratings are in and they’re not good for Bionic Woman at all. Between the series premiere and the latest episode, the audience has halved, actually it’s worse than halved.
This bodes badly for the Bionic Woman because it means ratings wise it’s right up there with Journeyman, which many TV pundits believe is headed for the chopping block.
Many viewers may have been expecting more from the series, given its produced by David Eick, famed for the rather brilliant Battlestar Galactica. Whether Jaime makes it to season two isn’t even in question, since there’s already speculation she may not even see out the season.

Re: Bionic Woman
When I saw the pilot episode it was clear the series would be in trouble as there was not enough emphisis on character development and the side plot with the “first” bionic woman was a little too much to swallow. It seems like they’re now trying to leave the Sara Corbin character behind and the sister even seems normal, supose to be autistic or something in the original previews of the show. Obviously they’ve realized some of the problems but maybe too late to correct them at this point. Also, the series has not been very creative in the way Jaime uses her bionic powers, other than a lot of running and fight scenes she hasn’t done very much. The pilot episode had big ratings and that was their chance to hook the audience. Jaime’s character needs to be more likable and not a tough broad who instantly becomes a super agent… should have been more like a fish out of water struggling with her new life, which I believe the audience would relate to better. Just my opinion.

Re: Bionic Woman 2
The other thought I had in the very beginning when hearing about the new series… they should have done this show as a second generation “bionic woman” instead of a complete remake. Then they could have left the door open for some Lindsay Wagner or Lee Majors guest appearences. In the pilot episode where Jaime first confronts Sara Corbin, I wanted to see Lindsay Wager step out of the shadows and say “no, actually I’m the first bionic woman” and help save the day.

Hey Dave,
thanks for the insightful comments and I couldn’t agree more. Your point about the guest appearances is brilliant. I think I would have died of delight had they included a scene of Lindsay Wagner saying “no, actually I’m the first bionic woman”.. that was definitely a spectacular TV moment missed.
Maybe you should get a job on the writing staff ;o)
I was really hoping big things for this series, given my love of Battlestar, but it just isn’t cutting it for me.. for all the reasons you’ve stated, along with the fact she never breaks injures her other non-bionic parts!
