Well it’s all over for another year. The Golden Globes 2009 were actually a great success, with plenty of champagne flowing around the celeb-filled tables to make it entertaining. As is usually the case with awards shows, there was a fair amount of dullness, but overall it was a fun watch.
As usual there were stand out moments in the show, Tina Fey’s acceptance speech (see below) was every bit as funny and classy as she is – she can do no wrong in our eyes. As well as this, there was the odd, yet humorous Tracy Morgan speaking on behalf of the 30 Rock cast and proclaiming he is the “face of post-racial America.” – scary!
Away from the 30 Rock cast, there were other notable moments throughout the awards, particularly the long-suffering Kate Winslet finally winning and getting some recognition (yay!!). She walked away with two Globes for her roles in The Reader and Revolutionary Road. A visibly shaken Winslet proclaimed on stage “Oh, please wrap up?!? You have no idea how much I am not wrapping up”, before continuing to talk for as long as she wanted. Good on you Kate, you deserved those extra minutes.
Perhaps one of the most interesting parts of the evenings coverage was the cameras that seemed to float around catching stars unaware. Amusing moments caught on tape included Brad Pitt leaning over to ask Angelina Jolie “what was that for?” when award for best screenplay was given and Christina Applegate looking slightly annoyed that she hadn’t won best actress in a comedy.
So bye-bye to the Golden Globes for another year and now it’s time to start focusing on the Oscars. Will Kate be able to replicate her win there and make this her year? Let’s hope so!
