Okay so American Idol is back on screens and it seems thus far to be the same old same old. I thought contestants this year were allowed to bring instruments to the auditions like they did in Australian Idol? Well I didn’t spot any. Actually all I spotted were a bunch of losers, slightly ‘slow’ individuals I felt sorry for and some contestants that surely MUST be there as a dare or to get into some weird US University club / group or something? The guy dressed as Princess Leia, I mean COME ON, who does that?!
Anyway, there were a few good singers, but here’s the thing, it all just seems so contrived now. Sure I know I’m saying this now and in a few weeks I’ll be pondering the winner of American Idol 2008. It’s like they just enjoy making people look like total asses, more than showing actual singers. I should point out this isn’t just an American thing though, I’ve been privy to three Idols, the US version, UK version and the Australian version and they all follow the same stupid and contrived formula… so why the hell can’t I stop watching it even though I want to pry my eyeballs out with a fork as I am!
