Zack and Miri Get an R Rating

Casting is so important. 

After first being tagged with an NC-17 rating, Kevin Smith has won an appeal to get the rating for Zack and Miri Make a Porno down to an R rating. This means it’s likely that we won’t be actually seeing anything particularly pornographic. Until the DVD, of course.

The comedy stars Seth Rogan and Elizabeth Banks as two friends who make a porno film to try to get out of debt. It opens on October 31st.

According to Smith’s website, no additional cuts had to be made, so apparently they got by just on making a good argument for the parts that were  considered trouble. This is good news, of course, because while an NC-17 rating would have given the film some extra publicity, it would have cut down on the audience. Fourteen year olds can usually slip into an R movie but theaters might get nervous when they see the NC 17 rating and might worry about their own bad publicity if thirteen year old Madison comes home and tells Mom she just saw a movie called Zack and Miri Make a Porno and it was rated NC-17.
