Zac Efron Confirms ‘High School Musical 3′ Will Be Last Instalment

I can just see millions of young kids, and mentally under developed teenagers faces dropping as they read that headline, but unfortunately (for you at least) it’s true: After High School Musical 3, there will be no more, nada, nothing left… for a while at least. That’s according to star of all three films, along with the delectable Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron.

He spoke to the MTV Movies Blog about the prospect of the cast all meeting up again for the third film, and told them:

“‘High School Musical’ is unlike anything. No one can fully understand. It’s just all of us in a group having fun. We really became best friends during this project, the whole cast. It’s like not even work. We just have the time of our lives out there.”

“It’s exciting to go back and just sing cheesy songs and dance. This is going to be the farewell to the East High Wildcats for a while. Senior year, graduation, this movie is the climax, it’s the third act, this is the legacy that we leave on East High. I think it’s going to be a good way to go out with a bang.”

My 7 year old niece, along with millions of other 7 year old nieces, and sisters, and daughters all around the world are going to be devastated by the news, while I am quite pleased they’ve decided to go out on top, before the franchise became tired and stale.

The thing is, I can’t actually see that being the end. High School Musical is too much of a cash cow for the studio execs to just walk away from the prospect of raking in the cash from further instalments, and the promotional pay day which comes with it.

My guess would be that the series will take a break, and then be revisited in a few years time, with an all new cast, and characters for a whole new generation of 7 year old girls to fall in love with.
