GI Joe, this week’s casting news generator.
Every so often a movie comes along that just spews out casting news for a while. First it was Star Trek. Then it was Justice League (for recasting news, State of Play is the current winner). For the moment, it’s GI Joe.
Just to update you, according to The Hollywood Reporter, previously announced cast members were Ray Park as Snake Eyes, a mute ninja, and Sienna Miller as the Baroness, who is “known for her espionage skills” (this already seems troublesome. Sienna Miller is definitely on my list of people I would not trust with a high-level, sensitive clandestine operation).
Now it’s been announced that Rachel Nichols will play Scarlett, “a skilled martial artist.” Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is ordnance expert Heavy Duty and Said Taghmaoui is Breaker, the communications specialists.
Nichols has been in lots of things, most recently P2. Akinnuoye-Agbaje is probably best known as Mr. Eko on Lost; Taghmaoui is in just-opened The Kite Runner and also was in Showtime’s Sleeper Cell.
The movie’s set for 2009, and I’m guessing there are high expectations for it.
