XOXO X-Men: Gossip Girl’s Schwarz to Create Next X-Men Movie

Chaos would ensue amongst the girl students if Wolverine returned to the Institute for Higher Learning as a teacher.
Variety reports that Fox has chosen Josh Schwartz to write the next X-Men movie, X-Men: First Class. The story will focus on teen characters introduced in other movies while they’re at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning.
Schwartz is best known for his small-screen creations, such as teen hits Gossip Girl and The OC. He’s also responsible for Chuck. Schwartz is expected to “inject a next-gen sensibility” into the superhero series. Schwartz was given the opportunity to direct as well as write, but so far hasn’t taken the studio up on that.
(Good for him–he’s spent his career doing TV and directing a hugely budgeted action film with special effects is a far cry from dealing with too-rich teens on an hour long nighttime soap. Knowing who you are is a key to success, Mr. Schwartz.)
Characters who may be included in the story include Iceman, Rogue, Angel, Colossus, Jubilee and Shadowcat. Character seen in the other films could be “reintroduced,” potentially with different actors. Sequel potential is unlimited, of course. Between this–I mean, these–films and the upcoming Wolverine, there should be plenty of X-Men to go ’round. For everyone. For a long time.
