“X-Men: Days of Future Past” Adds More X-Men Alums: Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, and Shawn Ashmore

Paquin, Page, and Ashmore back in the day. (Thanks to Collider for putting together the image.)

The sequel to “X-Men: First Class” is titled “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” And just in case you don’t get the point of the title, the cast keeps expanding with not just members of the cast of “First Class,” but also the first cycle of “X-Men” movies. First we got word that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan would be back, then Hugh Jackman (who cameo’d in “First Class”) and now we hear that Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, and Shawn Ashmore will also return. “Days of Future Past,” indeed.

When it came to making the connections, I’m sure it didn’t hurt that Bryan Singer, director of the first two “X-Men” movies, is back to direct “Days of Future Past.” He, by the way, is the one who broke the most recent casting news on Twitter:

Very excited to welcome #annapaquin, @ellenpage & @shawnrashmore to #XMen #DaysofFuturePast – thank you @BrettRatner for letting them live!

(Brett Ratner, for better or worse, directed the third “X-Men” movie, “X-Men: The Last Stand.”)

Paquin plays Rogue, Page plays Kitty Pryde, and Ashmore plays Iceman.

Returnees from “First Class” include James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult. Simon Kinberg wrote the script for “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” The release date is July 18, 2014.
