Wisp O’ Watchmen: 30 Minute Screening in LA

Ahh, who doesn’t remember this photo of the Watchmen’s predecessors, the Minutemen, from their history textbooks?

The NY Times has an article about a Watchmen screening held in LA by Zack Snyder. Read it here. About thirty minutes of footage was shown to sixty-some journalists; repeat screenings will follow in London and New York (I’m waiting for my invite).

A quote from the article:

“The scenes on display Wednesday spared nothing when it comes to the messy side of the super life. One scene in the R-rated film has an unclothed pair of heroes lounging in their high-powered “Owl Ship” after a love-making session. Another focused on the gore-spattered ceiling left behind by some super-action.

In all, the scenes gave a much deeper look at the film than did the extended trailer Mr. Snyder showed at the Comic-Con comics and fantasy convention in San Diego last summer. Indeed, a 12-minute credits sequence retold American history from the 1930s to the 1970s, as if heroes — good, and not so — had driven the action.”

Oh, I like how that credit sequence sounds.

Also, in response to questions, Snyder said there would be no sequel, or if there was, he would not be involved. He also said that he would fight to keep the current 2 hour 43 minute running time, despite any pressure there might be to make cuts.

Hmmm, I get nervous about movies that run that long, but I’m going to try to be open-minded. Surprise me, Zack. Make every minute count.
