Winstone, Thewlis, and Friel Move Onto “London Boulevard with Knightley

Anna Friel. What, you expected a picture of David Thewlis? Page views, people, page views!

Variety reports that Ray Winstone, David  Thewlis, and Anna Friel have joined the cast of “London Boulevard.” The drama stars Keira Knightley and Colin Farrell.

It’s about a “reclusive actress” who gets involved with a freshly paroled criminal. Knightley plays the reclusive actress (whose career, one suspects, is not going well) and Farrell is the criminal. Winstone plays a “former” crime boss (I put former in quotes because really, can you ever look at Winstone and truly believe he’s 100% committed to the right side of the law?); Thewlis is the actress’s business manager (who must really be frustrated with her) and Friel is the criminal’s sister.

Here’s the twist in the plot–from all appearances, this is a contemporary drama! Yes, Ms. Knightley is dabbling in the present. How this will affect the Knightley Costume Collection can only be speculated. Was she aware of this before signing on? Or am I wrong (always a good bet)? Are we going to find out in a few weeks that the film is actually set in 1951?

William Monahan is directing. Presumably he’ll be the one who has to break the wardrobe news to Keira.
