Will the Wachowskis Direct “Justice League?”

Do the Wachowskis want to wrangle superheroes?

If there’s this much drama about choosing a director for the “Justice League” movie, imagine what casting will be like.

Following more denials of interest from Ben Affleck, the rumors have turned in another direction. Moviehole reports that sources tell them that Warner Brothers have Andy and Lana Wachowski at the top of their list. The duo directed the highly successful “Matrix” trilogy for the studio (and “Speed Racer” but hey, everyone has a few bad ones on their resume), and they are receiving notice already for “Cloud Atlas,” which they directed with Tom Twyker.  Here’s the quote explaining it all:

“…Warner Bros are apparently jazzed with “Cloud Atlas”, and love that it’s as much a spectacle as it is a showcase for the immense ensemble involved, so it makes sense the W’s are under consideration. “Justice League” needs to be as big on character, as it does bells & whistles, and the Wachowski’s could probably offer that.”

The sticking point might be pace–WB wants to get this movie into production sooner rather than later and the Wachowskis have shown a tendency to work, shall we say, deliberately. They might not want to be in a situation where their hands are being forced by a studio timetable.

Moviehole hints that Ruben Fleischer might be the dark horse who will walk away with the job. He just did “Gangster Squad” for WB, and as has often been seen in the past, they tends to look first to directors who have already proven themselves to the studio.
