Will Smith To Produce Karate Kid Remake

IGN is reporting that a remake of The Karate Kid is in the works over at Sony Pictures, with Will Smith set to produce the film through his company, Overbook Entertainment. Jerry Weintraub, who produced the original film, is also attached to produce.
If you think a remake of The Karate Kid sounds like a bad idea it gets worse. Will Smith’s 9-year-old son Jaden Smith is attached to star. With someone that young in the title role you can expect the violence to be toned down dramatically.
Let’s hope this one doesn’t get off the ground. Who wants to see a Karate Kid movie without Pat Morita anyway?

I loved Karate Kid when I was a kid, and now I think it’s stupid. Other kids should have the opportunity to love a stupid movie like that, and I’m sure the original movie can be improved upon. I’m interested to see what he does with it.

NO VIOLENCE, NO WORTH WATCHING.
That would be my motto for this movie. So if this is taking off, I don’t think I’ll see it. Besides, Pat Morita was Miyagi, and he’ll always be Miyagi. Don’t accept substitutes.
