Will ‘The Love Guru’ End Mike Myers’ Career?

Will ‘The Love Guru’ End Mike Myers’ Career?

The very short and sweet answer is no. But that’s not the end of the article by any means, as I think we need to look at what went wrong with the film, and why Mike Myers misjudged the quality of this movie so badly. The crappiness of this film has certainly taken Mike Myers down a peg or two in most people’s estimations.

The Love Guru is a complete and utter stinker. Oh, I haven’t seen it, do you think I’m stupid or something? Instead I have read the opinions of people who have seen the film and urged everyone to stay away from it or risk sitting through 80-odd minutes of unfunny nonsense.

Mike Myers has a brilliant track record. The Wayne’s World and Austin Powers movies were both his own comic creations and were both brilliant, doing well enough to warrant sequels. But The Love Guru is not only an unforgettable film, it has failed to entice people in to the cinemas, ending fourth in the box office rankings on its opening weekend, losing out to Get Smart, The Incredible Hulk and Kung Fu Panda.

As the MTV Movies blog asks: what went wrong? Did Myers just become unfunny overnight? Is the character just utterly forgettable, and not in keeping with the mood of the time? Or is it just the curse of Justin Timberlake striking yet again?

As I said at the beginning of the article, this failure won’t end Myers career, in the same way Semi Pro didn’t end Will Ferrell’s career, and that was a stinker of utmost proportions. But Myers needs to get back on track quickly or risk being remembered for this more than the hits he has had.

  • You didn’t see the film and yet you have an opinion about it? Yes I do think you are stupid. Your article is worthless. Mike Myers is a comedical genius and although this film is not worthy of his talents (I have at least seen it) it does have some funny bits in it. It’s not for everyone and Mike will surely be back soon with something much better!

    k thx bye.

  • I agree with FilmGuy, how can you judge a movie when you have not watched it? if you ask me your the one to avoid Not The love Guru. and in my opinion I think that people have come down much to harsh on The love Guru! OMG! it only came forth in the box office Of course it was with the competiton it was up against. although it was not mind blowing I found it enjoyable and I am going to the cinima to watch it again this weekend. it’s the kind of humor that makes you remember the good old days of comedy before we had the stupid and retarded piss poor lame ass shit we have to pu up with in the cinema now. all people seem to be able to think about when it comes to this movie is how repetative it is and how all the jokes are old. I have not encounterd one person in my day to day life yet who has not enjoyed this movie. I think the critics came down much to hard SHAME ON YOU ALL!
