It appears there is a God after all. The sequel to 2007′s Wild Hogs starring John Travolta, Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence, and William H. Macy has been canned. Praise the Lord and all that jazz.
A great many people seemingly liked the first Wild Hogs, certainly enough to see it take $168.3 million at the box office – not a bad sum of money for a comedy. However, Disney has got cold feet about the long-planned sequel.
I first reported on Wild Hogs 2 all the way back in January 2008, in a post where I was pretty scathing about the movie. What can I say, I must have been on my man period at the time.
Since then, Brad Copeland, who also wrote the original, had delivered a script, which was due to be rewritten over the next few months. Walt Becker was back as director, and all four leads had expressed an interest in reprising their roles for a shoot beginning next summer.
But it’s not to be, with Variety reporting that Disney has scrapped the project, making it the third film it has canned in quick succession (the others being Wedding Banned and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea).
I can’t say I’m exactly gutted to hear of the demise of Wild Hogs 2, but I’m sure there are one or two people (with no taste) out there who would disagree.
