‘Wicked’ Mixes Harry Potter & Twilight

Wicked Book Cover

Hollywood is really very simple to predict. Give them one movie series which does brilliantly well and they will milk it to death. Then they will try and find a replacement in the same mold and milk that to death as well.

In this case, we have two hugely popular film franchises being melded together. And if the source material is up to it then this looks it could be a hit of the same level or even higher than either Harry Potter and Twilight.

Why Harry Potter and Twilight? Because Wicked, based on a five-book series written by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie sounds like it’s a direct mix of the two.

The teen novel series focuses on a young woman who discovers she is descended from a line of powerful witches. Harry Potter anyone? She then falls in love with a boy from a rival wizard clan. Twilight anyone?

According to MTV Movies, the series consists of five books - Witch, Curse, Legacy, Spellbound, and Resurrection - which means a successful movie translation of the first could spawn more movies just like Harry Potter and Twilight.

Let’s just hope Wicked is as good as those two existing series then.

  • Hi,
    I like this article but..
last night i went to the midnight premiere of harry potter and the half blood prince! I was honestly so disappointed! was it just me or did it seem very choppy and for some reason didn’t feel like it was a harry potter movie. Don’t get me wrong some of the parts in it were either really funny or somewhat scary but i really was not satisfied. I don’t know, what did you think?? Am i wrong? Give me your opinions..
