What To Make Of ‘Cowboys and Aliens’?

Cowboys and Aliens

Cowboys and Aliens would seem to have everything going for it: a solid director in Jon Favreau, a stellar cast featuring the likes of Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell, and Harrison Ford, and two awesome writers in the form of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. And yet, I don’t know what to make of it.

More than any other film I’ve heard about for years I’m torn on whether Cowboys and Aliens is going to be all kinds of awesome or a pile of absolute turd. Just watch the trailer and you’ll hopefully see what I mean.

I love westerns and I love me some alien invasion sci-fi, but putting the two together? Can that possibly work? And then there is the title. I’ve heard of not burying the lead but that title lays it out on a plate for us as if we’re all mentally-challenged. It’s like Snakes on a Plane 2.

Most films I can make my mind up on very quickly. I’ll look at the cast, the director, the writers, the source material, and then watch the trailer. And that’s enough. But Cowboys and Aliens has eluded me. It could be genius, it could be terrible. I just don’t know at this stage. Still, maybe that’s the point, because it’ll mean I’m more likely to go and see it to find out.
