Watchmen, Terminator at NY Comic-Con

watchmen action figures

Watchmen stuff, coming to a store neare you.

ComingSoon has really detailed descriptions of the footage from “Watchmen” and “Terminator Salvation” that was shown at New York Comic-Con. Read here if you can’t wait to find out exactly (and I mean shot-by-shot exactly) what goes on in the first 18 minues of “Watchmen” as well as “Terminator” material that hasn’t been out yet.

Probably more interesting were Q&As with Terminator director McG, who of course had to answer questions about the Bale Rant (it was no big deal, movie sets are passionate places, etc, etc), and Dave Gibbons, the co-creator and artist behind the “Watchmen” graphic novel (what?! Alan Moore wasn’t there?). Gibbons had to answer a lot of “where’s the squid?” questions. Mr. Gibbons?:

“The outcome is exactly the same as the graphic novel, but the MacGuffin, the gimmick, is a little different,” Gibbons told him. “I think you know what I mean; there’s no squid. I’d rather not say too much about it, but I certainly wasn’t at all upset or disappointed or offended. I think that’s the most important thing about the movie adaptation is that it has to stand as a good movie. The reality of it is that you have to make changes and you have to take things away, add things on, amalgamate things to make it work in a different medium.”

“In a sense, in the comic book, the squid is kind of a huge special effect that Adrian Veidt pulls, a practical joke, a trick, but if you have a movie that essentially is full of special effects, than the squid is just another special effect, if you see what I mean, so that I think that wouldn’t have worked as well in the movie. That’s my personal feeling about it. Sorry for all your cephalopod lovers out there.”

Again, if you want to read all the specifics about the material shown to the audience, read it here.
