Wanted was one of my favorite films of the summer, right up there with The Dark Knight, so I was pleased when it was announced back in July that at least one sequel, if not two, were going to be made. Work has already begun on the screenplay for Wanted 2, with Chris Morgan once again bringing the source material to life.
He recently spoke to MTV about the plans for a sequel, which he describes as “more global”. He said:
“Yes, I will be writing it. I’m actually leaving this conversation with you to go to a meeting with the director, Timur [Bekmambetov], and we’re talking about the story.”
“As far as I know, the studio is finishing their deal with Mark [Millar], and then we’re all going to get together and collaborate. And that’s something I’m very excited about.”
“The point is to continue the journey that Wes started in the first film. Wherever he ended up at the end of the film, now it’s time to move him forward.”
“There’s a natural journey that Wes needs to take. [The sequel] is going to be opened up to be more global.”
*SPOILER ALERT*
I’m so glad the potential of this franchise has been realized and that there’ll be more Wanted films to come. Obviously, Angelina Jolie isn’t going to have such an important role in the sequel/s having died at the end of the first film and all, but she could still appear via flashbacks.
Terence Stamp and James McAvoy are likely to be returning, which is all good news. The part apart the series going global echoes earlier reports that the Wanted sequels will mimic the Bourne films and take our hero around the world fighting against Fraternity cells in other countries.
The sooner Wanted 2 happens the better, and if it’s anywhere as good as the first film, I’ll be a happy man.

Nice spoiler there! Boy, it’s a good thing every single person in the world saw the movie in theater, because otherwise people who missed it might still be waiting for the DVD release, which happens in about three weeks! But hey, fuck them, right?
