I haven’t been able to go to the cinema as much as I would have wanted so far this year, which means I am hardly in a position to make a best and worst top ten movies list for the first six months of 2008. Lucky for me then that I don’t have to, and can instead rely on someone else to do the dirty work for me.
It just so happens that when I read the article on The Movie Blog, I found myself agreeing with most of the placing of the films, and the comments attached to them, both about the films I have seen, and the films I’ve merely read a lot about since the start of the year.
I’ll only list the top five of each list to ensure you go and read the original article.
Best Movies Of 2008 So Far
1. Wall-E
2. In Bruges
3. Wanted
4. The Dark Knight
5. Iron Man
Worst Movies Of 2008 So Far
1. Meet The Spartans
2. The Love Guru
3. Witless Protection
4. Over Her Dead Body
5. Drillbit Taylor
In terms of the best movies, I have only seen Iron Man so far, and for that alone would probably put it higher up the list. I think it worked mainly because Robert Downey Jr. is just so good in it, even though the casting of him probably took a lot of people by surprise.
I’m not a fan of animated movies and was going to avoid Wall-E, but maybe I should give it a go just so I don’t miss out on a possible classic. I’m seeing Wanted tomorrow, and will know then whether it stands up to scrutiny, and The Dark Knight will obviously be a contender when it finally comes out in a couple of weeks time.
I suppose it’s a measure of my good taste that I haven’t seen any of the worst movies, but I have certainly heard bad things about them all. Some people would have loved Meet The Spartans, and I;’m sure some expected it to be awful anyway. But the other films can’t really use that excuse.
Now it’s your turn to let us know what you think are the best and worst films of the year so far…
