Villain Shuffle: Laurie Out of “Robocop,” Brody Into “Motor City”

By Kirsten Anderson Casting

Adrien Brody will do the bad guy thing.

Remember in June when we all heard that Hugh Laurie would play the villain in Jose Padilha’s remake of “Robocop?” That sure sounded like a cool idea. Too bad it isn’t happening. Variety’s Jeff Sneider tweeted:

MGM RUMOR #1: While he was never officially confirmed, sources telling Variety that HUGH LAURIE has ended talks to play villain in ROBOCOP.

HUGH LAURIE definitely out of ROBOCOP reboot, not that he was ever “in.”

Oh well. We look forward to seeing the Talented Mr. Laurie in something else.

In more positive news, Variety reports that Adrien Brody has joined the cast of “Motor City.” He’ll play the villain role, which was Gary Oldman’s until schedule conflicts got in the way. Gerard Butler stars and Albert Hughes directs. Brody will next be seen in teh Chinese movie “1942,” and, of course, can often be found in the gossip pages.
