Viggo: On the Road to “The Hobbit”?

Surely there must be a ”lost Hobbit chapter” that features Aragorn.
Viggo Mortensen is out doing publicity for the prestigious, Oscar-buzzed-about, but pretty damn grim looking “The Road.” For interviewers who are feeling beaten down after asking a few questions about what it’s like to meet death and the apocalypse, the next good topic for Mortensen is, of course, the upcoming adaptation of “The Hobbit.”
Viggo’s “The Lord of the Rings” character Aragorn isn’t actually in “The Hobbit,” but is mentioned in the appendices that link the book to the LOTR trilogy. That’s enough for all of us who just loved Mortensen as Aragorn (that would be me–hey, he was the movies’ rock star). So are director Guillermo del Toro and producer Peter Jackson putting out any offers to Mortensen? ComingSoon asked Mortensen where he stands with the project. He says:
“I think they’re just worried about shooting the first part of that movie which doesn’t involve my character…My character is around at times–in the middle, but it would only be if they made a second movie or connecting movie that connected ‘The Hobbit’ to ‘The Lord of the Rings’ that I might appear, which would be great.”
So Viggo says he’s in if they find a place for him. The problem, though, is that at this point, del Toro and Jackson see both movies as solely an adaptation of “The Hobbit,” with the second not including “bridge to the LOTR” material. This either means Viggo is completely out of luck (or I am at least) or maybe…they’re going to try to drain a third movie out of the appendix/linking material? I’m sure this has been discussed but so much has already been said about “The Hobbit,” a movie that’s not even close to shooting, that I can’t even keep track of it all. Well, anyway, I think it would be for the best if they found some way to get Aragorn in. It’s always good to have someone tall around to break up a landscape of hobbits.
