There’s a very good chance of a movie based on the Uncharted game series happening. Even though it seems to be taking a while to actually become reality.
The last we heard was last month, when a director was being sought. But there’s been nothing since, which suggests we’ll have a little longer to wait yet. But Hollywood film producer Ari Arad believes that a film will happen, and it will become a franchise with definite sequel potential.
According to Games Thirst, he said:
“I would imagine it would eventually become a film franchise. I don’t think we’re going to get sick of telling [stories about Drake] anytime soon. Drake is such an iconic hero who is exactly the kind of character you build multiple movies around, like James Bond or Indiana Jones.”
I’d have to agree. Nathan Drake is a genius character, and the Uncharted games are magnificent. Sure, they share a great deal with the Indiana Jones films and the Tomb Raider games and films, but there are noticeable differences which leads me to believe an Uncharted movie franchise could work extremely well.
The Uncharted games follow Nathan Drake as he and his cohorts go after ancient treasures. But there’s a compelling storyline at the heart of it, and nothing is taken very seriously. Which would be a breath of fresh air in this genre.
