‘Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune’ Movie Confirmed

Uncharted Drakes Fortune

There was a rumor back in April stating that Playstation 3 game, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, would be made into a movie very shortly. And for once, a single source story has proven true. The Hollywood Reporter now claims the movie is in development at Columbia.

The game was a huge success upon release in 2007, so much so that a sequel is now on its way. The PS3 exclusive tells the story of Nathan Drake, a descendant of Sir Francis Drake, as he sets out on a treasure hunt in the best Indiana Jones and Lara Croft traditions.

Drake, along with his long-time friend Victor “Sully” Sullivan and journalist Elena Fisher, goes to South America in search of the lost city of El Dorado. Things don’t exactly go according to plan, with a rival treasure hunter getting in the way, as well as some particularly nasty foes who aren’t exactly human.

I’m not generally a fan of videogame translations because they usually suck. But Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is one of the few current generation titles which could make for a good big-screen experience. After all, the Tomb Raider films with Angelina Jolie playing Lara Croft were pretty damn good.

Casting could be all-important. The original story stated that Matthew McConaughey was being eyed as Nathan Drake, which isn’t good. He does have a similar look but he’s not the best actor in the world. Let’s just hope this film goes against the grain and turns out well.
