Uma in Charge: Thurman as Eloise’s Nanny

Uma Thurman

Uma Thurman, nanny material.

Uma Thurman will be channeling her inner Mary Poppins for Eloise in Paris.

Variety is reporting that Thurman has been cast as the precocious Eloise’s nanny in an adaptation of the book from the Eloise series famously created by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hillary Knight.

Charles Shyer is directing and co-wrote the screenplay with his daughter Hallie Meyers Shyer and Larry Spencer. Handmade Films is producing and is hoping to launch a franchise based on the series.

Shyer reportedly wrote the role of the nanny with Thurman in mind. This is interesting because if you know the Eloise books then you know that Eloise’s nanny looks a lot more like Mrs. Doubtfire than Ms. Thurman. If I were Uma and a director told me that he was casting the role of the nanny in Eloise and had immediately thought of me, I would be somewhat chagrined.

No casting yet for the lead role. Filming is set to begin in June in London, New York City, and of course, Paris.
