There’s nothing like a bit of celebrity skin to increase the pulling power of a movie, no matter how off the radar it may be. And that’s especially true of Welcome To The Rileys, which I hadn’t even heard of until Digital Spy reported it featured Kirsten Stewart nude.
I suddenly became very interested.
Stewart is obviously better known for portraying Bella Swan in the Twilight series of films. And that role has won her many young female fans. Now, she’s likely to gain older male fans purely for showing off her body in this new independent flick. She commented:
“It’s an independent movie that nobody would normally see and now it’s like, ‘Oh, let’s go see Bella in this stripper movie – it’ll be crazy!’ Working with James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo, who is just incredible, was the most fruitful life-changing experience on a movie that I’ve ever had.”
“It was just the hardest subject matter I’ve ever had to deal with – I play a very broken young girl who is a runaway. She’s a street kid. She’s working in a strip club and James Gandolfini’s character is just as dead inside as she is – and they wake each other up.”
Welcome To The Rileys actually sounds like a decent film, if not a little generic. So the publicity it has gained from featuring a nude Kirsten Stewart isn’t a bad thing. It could turn it from a dud into an unlikely box-office smash, even if some people only go and see it for a few particular scenes.
Stewart is making massive headway in her film career, despite already being busy making one Twilight movie every year. There’s this film, Adventureland, and The Runaways which are all likely to help prevent her from becoming typecast. I suspect Daniel Radcliffe (AKA Harry Potter) is jealous.
