‘Twilight’ Sequel Already Being Planned

The Twilight series of books by Stephenie Meyer is hugely popular around the world. Although it may not yet be at Harry Potter levels (although give it a few more years and it may well be), 50 million copies of the four books have been sold worldwide, and 7.7 million of those are in the U.S. alone.

So, with that in mind, the film, set to be released on November 21st in the slot vacated by Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince, is also going to be huge. It’s been made on a budget of $37 million but will probably take that in its opening weekend, with teenage girls particularly keen to see the leap from page to movie theatre.

With Twilight a guaranteed hit, there is already a sequel being planned, despite us being over a month away from the first movie hitting the streets. Deadline Hollywood Daily claims that Summit Entertainment’s CEO Rob Friedman is already readying the sequel based purely on the demand for merchandise and the trailer managing 2 million views in just 24 hours.

If I’m honest, I had never even heard of the books until word of the film reached me. And from what I understand, unlike Harry Potter, the Twilight series is almost exclusively aimed at females, especially younger ones, due to its forbidden love kind of angle.

But so what, it’s not like there’s a lack of young and impressionable girls in the world is there? This film is going to be a hit, and it will become a franchise. It’s just that if you’re male and/or over the age of 16, you may want to avoid it.
