“Twilight” News: “Breaking Dawn” Release Date

“Twilight” movies: a Thanksgiving tradition.

First we found out that Bill Condon will direct ”Breaking Dawn,” the fourth “Twilight” movie. Now Summit Entertainment has also announced a release date for the film. Mark your calendars–it’s November 18, 2011 (info courtesy of ComingSoon).

I haven’t read “Breaking Dawn,” but from what I hear it’s by far the craziest of the books, with scary birth scenes, werewolves in love with babies, etc. Since it’s long and event-filled, I thought that they were going to split it into two films (plus that’s twice as much money to be made). I don’t know if that’s still an option, like whether the 11/18/11 date might be just for the first film, or whether they’ve just decided that the appropriate plan will be to make it into just one big three hour epic. There also might be contract issues with the actors, like maybe they’re all only locked up for four films, and a new contract for a fifth would come at prohibitively high prices for the film’s now-famous cast. Oh, and there was some talk about making this a 3D film, but I doubt that’s going to happen.

Other films coming out on 11/18/11 are “Happy Feet 2″ and “Real Steel.” Not huge competition for the “Twilight” audience.
