‘Twilight’ Author Stephenie Meyer’s ‘The Host’ Becomes Movie

The Host

Stephenie Meyer is a name that is familiar to millions, because this is the woman who wrote the Twilight saga. Those four books, dealing with a love story between a human girl and a vampire, are currently being turned into movies, as any teenage girl could tell you.

But Meyer hasn’t just written the Twilight saga, with The Host being her first adult novel. It has garnered great reviews and Variety reports that it too will now be adapted for the big screen.

Meyer reportedly spurned several advances to turn The Host into a movie before finally agreeing to sell the rights to producers Nick Wechsler, Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz. Meyer has been heavily involved in turning Twilight into a series of movies, and the same is happening with The Host. Wechsler said:

“We wanted Stephenie to be involved in the adaptation and have her endorse and be part of the creative decisions. ‘Twilight’ has proven she knows more about what works than most.”

The Host tells a love story set in the near future of Earth. The planet has been assimilated by benevolent, parasitic aliens who call themselves ‘Souls’. One is fused with a dying human woman as a last-ditch effort to locate the last surviving pocket of humans.

The story sounds intriguing and probably even better suited to a movie than Twilight is. While it probably won’t be as huge as the Twilight saga is, The Host seems a worthy project.
