“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” Opens with $16 Million at Midnight

Megan Fox thinks things are looking up for ”Transformers” box office prospects.
Just in case the big overseas opening for “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” didn’t sell you on its blockbuster potential, now we have the first wave of box office numbers to solidify what looks like it will be a huge opening haul. The sequel officially opens today, but the midnight shows that have now become a must for event movies took in $16 million. That puts “Transformers: ROTF” in second place for midnight openings. “The Dark Knight” earned $18.5 million from its midnight opening last year.
However, Transformers fans, don’t be angry that you’re in second place! “The Dark Knight” opened on a Friday. Variety says that “Transformers” does now actually hold the record for midnight Wednesday openings, knocking “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” and its $12 million out of first place.
(Why do I have a feeling that studios will soon be releasing news like, “‘Stupid Movie’ had the best opening ever for a movie opening on Thursday directed by a left-handed director with five vowels in its title.”?)
So I guess if you don’t already have your tickets to a Transformers showing this weekend, you better get them, as it looks like it’s going to be pretty crowded in those theaters.
