Ben Stiller’s new comedy Tropic Thunder has a surprise star involved in the production, with Tom Cruise reportedly making a cameo appearance as a bald, foul-mouthed movie mogul.
If you, like me, don’t really like Cruise, especially after the whole leaked Scientology tape (pictured above), you’ll be shocked and surprised to hear that his appearance doesn’t actually ruin the film.
In fact, according to The New York Times, it was this moment of the film, at a rough cut screening of the flick, which got the biggest reaction from the assembled throng of agents, managers, publicists and reporters.
Ben Stiller had planned to keep Cruise’s cameo completely under wraps until the film opened, but decided to forget that option when a picture of him donning a fat suit leaked on to the Web last year.
Part of the reason Cruise’s cameo may have gone down so well with the Hollywood elite is because they know who his portrayal may be slightly (or even wholly) based on as Cruise had a massive falling out with Summer Redstone, the boss of Paramount, in 2006.
Though they have now made up, I’m sure there’ll be an assumption that this is a slight dig in his direction.
Tropic Thunder also stars Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., Jack Black, Matthew McConaughey and Nick Nolte, and is due out on August 15th in the US.
