Tobey Maguire and friend.
Tobey Maguire would, I’m sure, be the first to admit that he’s not an expert on the whole history of Spider-Man and the backstory of every villain the character encounters. But he knows enough to make a guess on which baddie might show up in the next Spider-Man movie.
Maguire is out doing interviews for his movie “Brothers,” which opens on December 4th. During his chat with MTV News, he was told of MTV’s Splash Page’s recent poll of readers to find out which villain they’d like to see in the fourth installment of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films. The results were 1) Lizard 2) Carnage and 3) Mysterio. Maguire reacted:
“I’m not that familiar with Carnage…I’m aware of Carnage, but I know Sam was sort of a fan of the early Spider-Man comics, and Carnage comes much later.”
“I’m more familiar with Lizard and Mysterio, and I don’t know — I like them as villains…I think they’re great, and Lizard obviously has a very personal relationship with Peter Parker, so we often will go towards that kind of stuff.”
True. We know Dylan Baker is booked for “Spider-Man 4″ so there are definitely indicators that Lizard is in play. But I guess Raimi could always throw us a curve and pull up someone more obscure.
I must say, when you watch the video of the interview, it’s funny to see Tobey’s reaction when he hears the beginning of the Spider-Man question from the MTV interviewer. He gets this look on his face like, “smile…smile…smile…please talk about “Brothers”…I don’t want to talk Spider-Man now…do you know “Brothers” has some Oscar buzz?…no, I don’t have an opinion on a villain…can we move on…” I love the kid.
