The Hobbit is one movie project everyone seems excited by. However, that level of interest mean just one thing – rumors and speculation galore. The problem is that most of it seems to be entirely false, being an invention of a journo or movie blogger somewhere.
Speculation as to who would be cast as Bilbo Baggins has been going on since May 2008, when James McAvoy was rumored to be filling the role. Since then we’ve had Daniel Radcliffe, Jack Black, and David Tennant all mentioned. None of which have ended up being accurate.
The latest rumor is that Tobey Maguire, best known for playing Spider-Man in the last three movies (and signed up for numbers four and five). Latino Review claims Maguire hinted this is the case during press for Brothers recently. A quick check of agency sources suggests Maguire is at least in talks for the lead role in The Hobbit films.
If true, this could throw the speculation that Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5 are to shoot back-to-back completely.
I’d be happy to see Maguire in the role but I personally can’t see him having the gap in his schedule needed to star in The Hobbit. Either way, casting has now begun so it shouldn’t be too long before the mystery is solved.
I think that SONY and Fox are going to fail with the new spider-man since Tobey is taking is role again. It will fail like Batman did when they kept changing the actor playing the dark knight. This really bugs me when there is no consistency in the plot. The new actor characterizing spider-man/Peter Parker will unfortunately not help me to forget that. SONY just give us back Columbia pictures and Tri-Star back and go away. You have no clue about making movies.
